Your Safety in UK

Your safety whilst studying at your UK University or College will be of paramount importance to you, your family and friends.

I'm pleased to report that, generally speaking , Britain is a safe place to live and to study. There are very few earthquakes , serious storms , dangerous animals or insects , and crime rates are comparable with other civilised countries.

Police

The Police do not generally carry guns , and the carrying of weapons (guns, knives etc…) by the public is against the law.

However, crime does exist and visitors and residents alike need to use common sense and take care to avoid becoming a victim of crime.

Emergencies - dial 999

There are well developed Police , Ambulance and Fire Services in every town. There is one telephone number used for all emergency services including Police , Ambulance , Fire Service and Coast Guard. THE EMERGENCY NUMBER IS 999

I.C.E. “In Case of Emergency”

A practice many people find useful is to put an entry named “ICE” in the Contacts Section of your mobile phone, and then list the people you would like to be called in an emergency or in the event that someone finds your phone. For example it could be a friend’s number, someone from your family or your University switchboard number. (N.B. Don’t list your own mobile phone number under ICE as anyone finding your phone will be calling you from that number!)
