Can your Family come with you?

Yes, some dependents and family members of Students studying at UK Universities can obtain a visa to stay here too. Your spouse (husband or wife) , civil partner (same-sex partner) and dependent children may be able to stay with you in the UK whilst you study. However, you cannot bring unmarried partners (except same-sex civil partners) to the UK unless they are entering the UK so that you can marry here. If you have been in a settled partnership for two or more years with someone who has settlement in the UK (i.e. 'indefinite leave to enter/remain' or 'permanent residence'), or someone who holds a Work Permit, or is a British citizen, the situation may be different. It's quite complicated isn't it? But don't worry - the student adviser or welfare officer at your college or university may be able to advise you before making an application to the Home Office for entry clearance.
EES and Swiss Nationals
If you are a national of an EEA country or Switzerland, your spouse or civil partner have an automatic right to accompany you to the UK, as will dependent children.

Students from other Countries
If you are a from a country other than an EEA country or Switzerland, you will still normally be able to bring your spouse or civil partner with you and any dependent children who are under 18 years of age. You’ll need to show that you can support them financially, that you can pay for their accommodation and that they will leave the UK with you when you finish your studies. Your family members may need to apply for entry clearance.

Can my dependents and family work in the UK?
They will usually be allowed to work if you have permission to stay for at least 12 months. As long as they are over 16 years of age and their passport stamp / sticker does not prohibit it, they will be free to work while they are in the UK. They will need a National Insurance (NI) number.

Can my dependents study in the UK?
Your family may also be able to study in the UK. Children under 16 years old are required by law to attend full-time education and they can usually go to a UK government school free of charge. Your college or university may be able to advise and help you with this. Children over 16 may be able to study at a school, college or university but will probably have to pay the same fees as other international students coming to the UK. If your child wishes to stay on at a UK school after you leave, you may have to send them to a private fee-paying school.
